Grading The Pittsburgh Steelers' Top 5 Free Agency Decisions In 2015

While the Steelers haven't made too many free agency moves thus far in this 2015 offseason, they have addressed some of their main priorities to build a roster with both depth and elite talent at several positions. Here's how I would grade their top five moves.

5. Will Allen

Within hours of Troy Polamalu's retirement announcement, the Steelers resigned Allen, who served as a reliable backup safety for the team last year. While he may not get the starting job in 2015, the reliable veteran will be utilized just as much, if not more in this Pittsburgh secondary.

Grade: C+

4. Matt Spaeth

While Spaeth isn't much of a pass-catching tight end, he brings a run-blocking ability to the position that exceeds that of Pro Bowl teammate Heath Miller. With the emphasis the Steelers have placed on the run game with the emergence of Le'Veon Bell, re-signing Spaeth was a great move.

Grade: B

3. DeAngelo Williams

He won't be the starter in the Steelers' backfield, but nine-year veteran DeAngelo Williams provides the perfect complement to LeVeon Bell heading into the 2015 season. This will be a dangerous 1-2 punch that Steelers fans should be excited about.

Grade: B+

2. Arthur Moats

By re-signing Moats, the Steelers have ensured adequate depth at the outside linebacker position, which was a priority this offseason. Look for Moats to take on a larger role in 2015, possibly becoming a three-down back for this Pittsburgh defense.

Grade: A-

1. James Harrison

This is quite possibly the highest-impact free agency signing for the Steelers so far this year. Yes, his age is becoming a factor, but judging by his performance last year, he has plenty left in the tank. In addition to that talent, he brings wisdom and mentorship to the younger defenders as well.
