Chip Kelly Reuniting With Marcus Mariota For Tennessee Titans Not As Farfetched As It Seems

Now that the NFL Draft is over and Chip Kelly did not get the quarterback he coveted, Marcus Mariota, the real kick in the teeth for Philadelphia Eagles fans would be Kelly one day leaving town to join forces with the one quarterback who could make him a Super Bowl-winning head coach.

That day might not come next year or the year after that, but it might not all that far down the road. Kelly’s innovative read-option offense, which at one time looked like it would revolutionize the NFL, needs a special kind of quarterback — and his name is not Michael Vick, Nick Foles or Mark Sanchez. There is a very real possibility that Mariota is the only quarterback who could ever successfully run it at the NFL level.

If things do not work out between Mariota and Tennessee Titans head  coach Ken Whisenhunt, a reunion with Kelly could be possible.

It’s not as farfetched as one might think. The oft-injured Sam Bradford could gets another ACL and retire from football, and Sanchez could prove to be the mediocre quarterback he has always been. Kelly would then jump at the first Power 5 job offer  that comes his way, and a couple of years down the line, Whisenhunt might gets fired by the Titans because his offensive philosophy and Mariota’s do not mesh.

Kelly will then be tempted to pull a Bobby Petrino and would have no qualms about job-jumping. The result could be that Mariota helping him win Super Bowl LV. If the vanquished foe that day is the Eagles, police patrolling the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers would be wise to order the bridges closed for that night.
