You have to love coach Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots at times, but he might be the biggest name in sports who gets away with the most. His philosophy and look on the sidelines are classic, and his no-nonsense attitude and demeanor can be compared to the most exceptional coaches in history. However, he could soon become the most talked about head coach for all the wrong reasons.
Belichick and the Patriots are one of the winningest franchise marriages in NFL history, but you have to wonder if there is a line he won’t cross to win a game. It’s hard to make an argument that Belichick doesn’t make the league better with his NFL wisdom and coaching ability. However, the entire league has made it clear that his shenanigans are somewhat acceptable as long as you say and do the right things.
Belichick has gotten away with many controversies over the years, but the most recent is the football deflating fiasco during the AFC championship game. Tom Brady got most of the penalty (as he was suspended for four games), but when does Belichick get a suspension? The way I see it, it doesn’t really matter if coach Belichick knew about the deflation anyway. He’s the catalyst. He’s the head of the ship. Why shouldn’t the NFL suspend him?
The Patriots had the Spygate Scandel of 2007 and now this, not to mention multiple fines for Belichick over the years. I must commend this man on getting the job done, but when does he become a disgrace? The NFL has suspended Brady, fined Belichick and even taken away future draft picks more than once, but I think they need a penalty that’ is a little more severe. My recommendation: suspend Brady four games, and Belichick eight.
