5 Philadelphia Eagles Training Camp Battles to Watch in 2015

The Eagles' cupboard is stocked with a haul of new players from both free agency and the draft. Now the question becomes who sticks around and who is shipped out. Here's a look at the top five training camp battles you need to keep an eye on.

Barring a trade of someone higher up on the depth chart, Shepherd and Evans could be battling it out for the final cornerback spot. While Shepherd may have the better all-around coverage skills, Evans has the cornerback/safety versatility Kelly loves. And with neither player having a big investment in them from the team, both are completely expendable. It'll be fun to see who emerges for that last spot.

4. Zach Ertz vs. Brent Celek

Ertz never broke out last season like many hoped, mostly because of his struggles with run blocking. He’s easily the better, more explosive athlete over Celek, but Celek has been an all-around reliable player here for years. The path to the No. 1 tight end job in Philadelphia is his for the taking, but he’s going to have to answer those questions first.

3. Brandon Boykin vs. Walter Thurmond

It appears Rowe is your starting corner with Byron Maxwell, so unless he’s traded, Boykin is going to be battling with Thurmond for his slot cornerback position. I think the job is Boykin’s for the taking -- he’s just been too good in that role. Whether he can push for that starting outside job is anyone’s guess, but I think for now Boykin is destined to stay inside unless injuries force otherwise.

2. Nelson Agholor vs. Josh Huff

Don’t get me wrong, both Agholor and Huff are going to see the field in 2015. The question is going to be who gets the second spot on the depth chart and who is relegated to primary slot duty. Agholor has the upside and is the better receiver, but Huff has upside himself and reports are he’s been much improved from last season. I think clearly Agholor has the inside track on the job, but Huff will have his chances.

Only with Kelly’s Eagles would the third quarterback position be a notable battle. Barkley has shown absolutely nothing in his time here, but Tebow has been out of the game altogether. I give the slight edge to Barkley right now since he at least knows the system, but if Tebow shows even the slightest improvement he could easily take the job from him.
