The San Diego Chargers will need to improve as a team if they are to contend for a playoff spot next season. They have several young players with potential who need to step up in order for the team to be successful. Here are five Chargers who must improve their game significantly this offseason.

Attaochu showed potential last season when he was able to get on the field, but he must become more consistent as he will likely see more playing time next year. The Chargers need him to get after the quarterback and help them generate more pressure.

The rookie running back will be given every opportunity to earn the starting position, but he must master the playbook. He has a lot of talent and can give the Chargers a much needed playmaker on the offensive side of the ball.

3. Chris Watt

Watt struggled as a rookie, but he was thrown into a tough situation due to all of the injuries. He must show that he can get better and be a key player on the interior line, which was a glaring weakness last season.

2. Jason Verrett

When Verrett was healthy, he was arguably the best rookie cornerback on the field last season. He has gotten stronger and is poised to make a jump in his second season, but the team needs him to stay injury-free.

1. Melvin Ingram

Ingram has all the tools to be a great pass rusher, but is another player who has been unable to stay healthy. The Chargers need him to be a playmaker on defense, as they must get a more consistent pass rush on opposing quarterbacks. Ingram has the potential to be a star, and he must step up for the team.
