The Indianapolis Colts will use training camp to evaluate their talent. However, there are a few problems they need to solve before the first preseason game against the New York Jets. Here are five questions the Colts must answer in training camp.

The kickoff and punt returner position has never been a strength for the Colts. However, it was getting ridiculous last year. The team had use a roster spot late last season to sign return specialist Josh Cribbs. It did not work out well, especially in the AFC Championship game. This year there is a lot of potential, especially with Phillip Dorsett as a possible favorite to be the primary returner. Dan Herron will compete for the position too.

The Colts loaded up during the offseason to make the Super Bowl this season. The only thing holding them back has been their defense. Are the additions of Kendall Langford, Trent Cole, Nate Irving, Dwight Lowery and a plethora of young, talented rookies enough to give the Colts a top 10 defense? If the rookies are getting some first-team snaps along with the veterans, it shows the Colts are confident about their depth and talent.

The Colts expect T.Y. Hilton and Andre Johnson to start at receiver positions, but they like running three-receiver sets. Everyone wants to give the No. 3 receiver spot to Donte Moncrief. However, the Colts are loaded at receiver and have made it an open competition for that spot. They need to decide if Dorsett, Duron Carter or Vincent Brown is the No. 3 receiver so Andrew Luck can start building chemistry with all the starters.

The ideal starters at outside linebacker are Trent Cole and Mathis, but Mathis may not be ready until September. This means another outside linebacker will need to start and play well. Even if Mathis returns in September, there is no telling if or when he will return to his former form like in the 2013 season. This makes it important for Erik Walden, Bjorn Werner or Jonathan Newsome to lock down the open spot.

The Colts have the quarterback and the weapons to have an explosive offense. However, it means nothing if they have not settled on a lineman to snap the ball and protect Andrew Luck. Jonotthan Harrison and Khaled Holmes are battling for the starting center spot. The quicker the Colts figure out the starting center the better, because the center controls all pass protection and run blocking schemes and needs good chemistry with the quarterback.
