As usual during the offseason, NFL fans are drooling for some action and training camps are right around the corner. Specifically, Dallas Cowboys fans are chomping at the bit to see their team build on an incredibly surprising 2014 season that ended an overturned Dez Bryant catch away from an NFC title game appearance. Now that training camp is almost here, let’s see what America’s Team will be up to in 2015.

Dallas currently has four quarterbacks, but only three will make the roster and it’s possible the team will only keep two active during the season. Tony Romo heads into 2015 as an MVP candidate with his back fully healthy and plenty of weapons around him. The coaching staff says Brandon Weeden is drastically improved as Romo’s backup and Dustin Vaughan is also showing signs of growth. UTEP's Jameill Showers is talented, but he's just a camp body.

Running back is by far the most interesting position for the Cowboys this year. Darren McFadden, Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar will all make the roster and split carries, barring something crazy happening in camp. Ryan Williams and Lache Seastrunk are both dark horses to make the team as a fourth back, but that fourth spot isn’t guaranteed. They’ll both put up fights, though, so neither can be counted out until final cuts are made.

Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley enter 2015 as arguably one of the best receiving corps in the NFL. After that, things get crowded with 2014 fifth-round pick Devin Street, some young veterans and a slew of undrafted rookies. Former first-round bust A.J. Jenkins is one to watch along with UFAs George Farmer and Lucky Whitehead. Reggie Dunn, Antwan Goodley, Deontay Greenberry and Nick Harwell round out the group vying for jobs.

It’s still mind-boggling to hear so many people write off Jason Witten as old and washed up, but that’s simply not the case. He’ll be the Cowboys’ reliable starter yet again in 2015 with Gavin Escobar and James Hanna backing him up effectively. Well, that is unless the coaching staff unwisely decides to allow Ray Hamilton or Geoff Swaim to take Hanna’s roster spot. Both rookies should be given fair chances, but Hanna is still a hidden gem.

One the NFL’s best offensive lines will get even better in 2015 with La’el Collins likely taking over at left guard for Ron Leary. Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, Zack Martin and Doug Free hold down the other four spots with Darrion Weems and Chaz Green vying for the swing tackle spot, assuming the latter recovers quickly from hip surgery. Mackenzy Bernadeau will also make the roster while several camp bodies will fight for a possible 10th job.

Dallas’ defensive line will be drastically improved with the additions of Randy Gregory and Greg Hardy, despite the latter's suspension. Demarcus Lawrence, Tyrone Crawford and Nick Hayden will start in Week 1 along with the winner of Gregory and Jeremy Mincey at DE in Hardy’s absence. Terrell McClain and Jack Crawford will also make the roster with Ken Boatright, Ben Gardner, Ryan Russell and possibly Davon Coleman fighting for the ninth spot.

With Sean Lee healthy, the Cowboys will have arguably the league’s best linebacking corps once Rolando McClain returns from his suspension. Anthony Hitchens is the likely starter at the other outside slot with Jasper Brinkley, Andrew Gachkar, Kyle Wilber, Damien Wilson and Keith Rivers rounding out the eight-man unit. Everyone is rooting for Cameron Lawrence to make the team, but he’s a long shot.

It’s debatable, but the Cowboys’ cornerback jobs are pretty much set with first-round pick Byron Jones joining incumbents Brandon Carr, Orlando Scandrick and Tyler Patmon in the secondary. Morris Claiborne is reportedly having the offseason of his life, so everyone is interested to see how he’ll perform in a contract year coming off a torn patellar tendon. Many would like to see Corey White make the roster, but that’s certainly not guaranteed.

Everything is also essentially locked in at safety for Dallas with Barry Church and J.J. Wilcox as your starters and Jeff Heath and the returning prodigal son Danny McCray as your backups. On the off chance the Cowboys want to keep five safeties, Corey White could be the guy (or he could even possibly beat out Heath for a job). Ray Vinopal and Tim Scott are also on the roster as camp bodies, but they have very slim chances of making the roster.

The Cowboys boast the most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history with Dan Bailey on the roster and he’s locked in for the long term after signing a seven-year extension last year. Chris Jones will return as the punter barring anything crazy happening in camp while L.P. LaDouceur, “Old Reliable,” will be back once again as the long snapper.

Position Battles to Watch

As mentioned, the primary position battles to watch are at running back and swing tackle with the depth spots on the defensive line and at linebacker also garnering some attention. At running back, it’s safe to say a committee approach will be utilized all season. Bet on Chaz Green for swing tackle (if he’s healthy) with Darrion Weems also making the roster.

With Greg Hardy’s suspension getting drastically reduced, Dez Bryant happy with his new contract and Tony Romo finally 100 percent healthy, the Cowboys’ outlook for 2015 is very positive as they try to build on their successful 2014 campaign. It’s safe to say they’ll reach double digits in the win column and likely win the NFC East again with an 11-5 record.
