The Detroit Lions will look to bounce back after their discouraging loss to the Green Bay Packers when they travel to Missouri to play a St. Louis Rams team that has lost five straight. The last time these two teams played in 2012, Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford led a thrilling last-minute comeback.

Offensively, the Rams aren’t a great threat. St. Louis ranks 31st in total offense and averages under 16 points per game. Without a legitimate QB threat, the Rams can’t do much. They rely on their rushing attack to get things going, so it’ll be imperative for Detroit to neutralize tailback Todd Gurley. Gurley is averaging under five yards per carry and is gaining on the 1,000-yard mark. In four games this season, he’s rushed for over 120 yards. If Detroit allows Gurley to run wild, that’ll make St. Louis tough to beat. With the threat of a running game, the Rams can utilize play-actions for burner Tavon Austin. Don’t let his lackluster stats be deceiving; if Austin had a legitimate QB, he’d wreak havoc.

Detroit has the clear advantage at QB, but that’s where St. Louis’ pass rush comes in. The Lions have struggled to protect Stafford all year, surrendering 31 sacks and nearly 80 QB hits. The Rams feature premier defensive ends in Chris Long and Robert Quinn — provided Quinn plays. If he doesn’t, Detroit catches a huge break. If he does, Stafford will probably get sacked 10 times. Detroit will look to get their running game going. Ameer Abdullah has heated up lately, and that gives this team the boost they’ve been looking for.

It should be a low-scoring game. The Rams, unfortunately, do not appear to have enough offense to pull this game out. Detroit isn’t in the best shape either, but they can put up a few more points here.

Prediction: Lions 18, Rams 15
