In what was an inevitable move after surely finding no trade takers, the Houston Texans released quarterback Brian Hoyer on Sunday. He should land on his feet somewhere though, and here are five potential landing spots for Hoyer.
5. Denver Broncos
Getty ImagesUntil further notice, the Broncos will be a possible landing spot for every available quarterback. I don't see a ton of interest in Hoyer coming from Denver, but it can't be ruled out.
4. Minnesota Vikings
Getty ImagesHoyer started three games for the Cleveland Browns in 2013, when Vikings' offensive coordinator Norv Turner occupied the same post there. At minimum, Hoyer would be an upgrade over Shaun Hill as Teddy Bridgewater's backup.
3. Indianapolis Colts
Getty ImagesIn Scott Tolzien and Stephen Morris, the Colts have lackluster and unproven depth behind Andrew Luck. Hoyer would at least offer recent playing time as a reference point, and ideally efficient numbers if Luck were to be injured again.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
Getty ImagesJason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported Hoyer will be "in demand", while specifically mentioning the Steelers as a team with interest. If they seek a veteran to back up Ben Roethlisberger, Hoyer looks like a clear fit.
1. New York Jets
Getty ImagesAs their impasse with Ryan Fitzpatrick continues, the Jets could move toward signing Hoyer or at least use his availability as leverage. Either way, the plot has now thickened a bit.
