Philadelphia Flyers Defenseman Andrej Meszaros to Have Surgery on Herniated Disc

By Johnny Machurek

Earlier today Howard Eskin had stated that Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros would have back surgey for a herniated disc.  Now everyone including the Flyers themselves have confirmed the report.

As stated Mez will be out 6-8 weeks, which means at the earliest he would be back on May 2.  This is a huge blow to the Flyers, this means that Meszaros is out at least for the first round.  If the Flyers are to get Mez back in the lineup, they will have to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Meszaros last played on March 1, when he tallied a goal and two assists.  It is still unclear at this time how long Mez has been dealing with this disc issue.  The Flyers are still without another blue liner in Pavel Kubina and just recently Kimmo Timonen rejoined the lineup.
