  • Mario Lemieux earned his 20th hat trick with the Pens, in a game against the New Jersey Devils

  • Jean Pronovost set the Penguins’ record for fastest goal from the start of a game (:06 seconds) against the St. Louis Blues in a 5-2 win

  • Les Binkley stopped 25 shots from the Minnesota North Stars to win 2-0 and earned his ninth shutout with the Pens

  • Hornets’ Bob Solinger scored :08 seconds into overtime to set an AHL record for the fastest end to an overtime game

  • the Hornets shut out the Hershey Bears, 3-0, in Hershey to take a two-games-to-none lead

  • the Hornets lost to the New Haven Ramblers in overtime, 4-2, and lost their opening round series, 2-0
