5 Players the Preds Should Target Before 2015 NHL Trade Deadline

The Nashville Predators are one of the surprise teams of the NHL and could be on the cusp a Stanley Cup run this season. While the team is one of the best in an ultra-competitive Western Conference, there is still work to be done before the playoffs begin. Here are five players who could help Nashville at the deadline.

5. Martin Brodeur

The aging netminder will be out of St. Louis before long, and the Predators might be a great fit. Even at his age I think Brodeur could be a solid upgrade over Carter Hutton backing up Pekka Rinne. For what it’s worth, Brodeur almost played for a Nashville team in the past -- the New Jersey Devils almost relocated to the Music City in the mid-1990s before the Predators arrived in Tennessee.

4. Adam McQuaid

The Boston defenseman is a free agent at the end of the year, and with the Bruins in the midst of a downward spiral, McQuaid could be on his way out of town. McQuaid is one of the toughest players in the NHL, and despite his recent injury woes, he’d fit in great with Nashville’s bruising group of defensemen. His 2011 Stanley Cup ring would surely garner him plenty of respect in the locker room from the moment he walked in.

3. Chris Stewart

Stewart’s offense isn’t where it was even a few years ago, but his size and gritty style of play could be beneficial to a Predators lineup that could use both. The massive power forward barreling down the wing could open up time and space for the more offensively gifted forwards to operate and put goals on the board.

New Jersey is in the midst of a free fall, and the former Stanley Cup champion will likely be on his way out of Newark in the next few weeks. While he may be inconsistent, Ryder can be an absolute weapon on the power play and would be a great fixture on the team’s second unit. When Ryder is on a hot-streak look out, because he can make even the best goalies look foolish with his devastating wrist shot.

1. Jaromir Jagr

The 43-year-old winger still has something left in the tank, and the team could definitely use his over 200 games of playoff experience. The Predators are legitimate Stanley Cup contenders, and adding Jagr surely would help make their dreams of glory a reality. It’d also be a great story to see Jagr win a Stanley Cup in 2015 some 23 years after winning his second of two Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
