Anaheim Ducks Need To Part Ways With Ilya Bryzgalov

The Anaheim Ducks have had quite the goalie conundrum this season. After John Gibson got injured, the Ducks brought up Jason LaBarbera to back up Frederik Andersen. He did pretty well for the Ducks, but then he was injured and once again the backup position was available. Anaheim then decided to let Ilya Bryzgalov try out for the team, which he would ultimately make. He was signed to a one-year $2.8 million contract.

It’s been a while now, and though he hasn’t gotten much playing time, it’s been pretty clear that the writing is on the wall: the Ducks made a bad decision and need to get rid of Bryzgalov.

In the four games he’s played in an Anaheim sweater, he’s only won one though even that win was against a mediocre New Jersey Devils team. He has 18 goals against with a horrendous 4.69 GAA and .832 save percentage.

This is not the type of goaltending the top team in the league needs, especially in the latter half of the season with the playoffs coming up. The Ducks need a goalie they can count on and though Andersen has been playing very well, it’s important that his backup can actually back him up and not be a liability for the team.

In other words, Bryzgalov needs to go — right now.
