5 Players the Washington Capitals Should Target Before the 2015 NHL Trade Deadline

Barry Trotz has the Washington Capitals playing some amazing hockey as they look to return to the playoffs this season. After spending the offseason addressing their defense, I expect them to use the trade deadline to add at least one forward as they look to surround superstar Alexander Ovechkin with complementary pieces. Here are five players they should target.

5. Daniel Winnik

The big forward has some speed and would greatly benefit the team’s penalty kill. I also think his style would allow him to easily slide into any spot in the team’s forward lines.

The gritty Upshall would bring some tenacity to the Capitals' forward group, and he wouldn’t cost them too much. I like Upshall’s versatility, as much like Winnik he can play anywhere in the team’s lineup.

The Sabres winger is playing better as of late, as he’s looking to escape from an awful Buffalo team. Stewart’s combination of physicality and timely offense would make the Caps even tougher to play against.

The Capitals have had issues at right wing all year, and the New Jersey sniper could alleviate those struggles. Ryder won a Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins in 2011, and his postseason experience would be great in the Caps' locker room.

On and off the ice this would be a great fit; again the team’s right wings haven’t been great, and Jagr was once one of the league’s best players as a member of the Capitals. Ovechkin once played with Sergei Fedorov, so playing with an aging, but productive veteran would be nothing new for the Caps' superstar.
