5 Players the Blues Should Target Before NHL Trade Deadline

The St. Louis Blues look more and more like legitimate Stanley Cup contenders with each win they put on the board. After signing Paul Stastny to add some star power over the summer, the team will be looking to add depth at the deadline. Here are five names that could really help the Blues when it matters most.

Few players have the innate mix of grit and tenacity that the Senators winger does, and with Steve Ott and Max Lapierre already in the lineup, the Blues could be a nightmare up front. Size and grit up front is crucial in the playoffs, especially in the Western Conference, and Neil fits both criteria to a tee.

4. Andrej Sekera

With Kevin Shattenkirk missing time and Jay Bouwmeester having a less than par year offensively, the soon to be free agent Hurricane could be a great fit to aid in puck moving. I would love to see how Sekera and Alex Pietrangelo would form chemistry, as they can both play in all situations and excel offensively.

3. Zbynek Michalek

The Coyotes are on the verge of a massive firesale, which means that Michaelk will likely be on his way out of the desert. His defensive presence and ability to make life miserable for opposing forwards would make him a welcomed addition to the Blues already deep defense.

2. Cody Franson

Much like Michalek, Franson is a pending free agent that is on his way out of town via firesale. Franson’s all-around game and size would be a difference maker in the playoffs, which could be what gets the Blues over the hump in a tougher than ever Western Conference.

1. Daniel Winnik

As the Leafs fall further and further out of contention, players like Winnik, who has a rare combination of size and speed, will be on their way out of town. I’d love to see how Winnik would benefit the Blues penalty kill which can be a make or break factor in the playoffs.

Things got a little chippy last night after Bobby Farnham laid out Dmitri Jaškin with a hit away from the puck. The St. Louis Blues players did not like that one bit.
