10 Moves the Los Angeles Kings Will Make this Offseason

After missing out on the 2015 playoffs, the reigning Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings have work to do this offseason. The Kings want to prove missing the playoffs was a fluke and will be active this offseason for that reason. Look for these 10 moves to be among the most noteworthy for the Kings this summer.

The veteran defender has a lot miles on him and has nothing left to prove. Look for Regehr to call it a career after 15 years of doing all the dirty work to help his teams win games and present the Kings with another void on defense.

Dean Lombardi will be looking to piece together a new-look bottom six group of forwards, and I think Moss fits that vision. The veteran forward brings size and has an underrated offensive skill set, so inking him for the league minimum can be a win-win contract scenario.

8. Slava Voynov Will End Up in the KHL

With spousal abuse charges pending, it’s likely Voynov has played his last game in the NHL and in North America. I expect Voynov to get a 90-day suspended sentence before he bolts back to Russia to play in the KHL and continue his hockey career on the other side of the planet.

The 2014 Conn Smythe winner will be a free agent this summer and it’s likely the end of his tenure in L.A. A team on the rise could use his veteran experience and the newfound cap room can be allocated to help the Kings in other areas.

6. Jarret Stoll Will Leave

The third-line center has seen better days, and Nick Shore knocking on the door means it’s time for the two sides to move on. Fans appreciate the things Stoll brought to the table, but they must understand roster turnover is what keeps great teams in the driver’s seat.

The backup goalie has excelled in a limited role and will be a sought after commodity this summer. Moving Jones for draft picks will allow the Kings to address other areas of need in the organization, while landing a veteran backup who can fill his void won’t be that difficult.

4. Mike Richards Will Be Bought Out

It should have been done last summer when the amnesty provision was still an option, but alas a year later here we are. The Kings will move on from the Richards deal and allow the respected veteran to continue his career elsewhere while gaining valuable cap room to address other areas.

3. Tyler Toffoli Will Be Locked Up

It’ll be tense at times, but the restricted free agent will come to terms with the Kings on a new deal that keeps him in Los Angeles long term. Toffoli is a natural goal scorer, and players like him don’t come around often. Therefore, the onus is on the Kings to keep him around.

The team gave up a lot to land the defenseman from the Carolina Hurricanes and missing the playoffs wasn’t in the plans. The pending free agent will look for the best offer imaginable and hit the market in July before agreeing on a five-year deal worth around $ 25 million.

The superstar center can be a free agent in July of 2016, and the Kings will do everything in their power to ensure this doesn’t happen. Negotiations can begin on July 1, and I fully expect Kopitar to be signed to a deal worth about $ 64 million over eight years by the time next season starts.
