The New Jersey Devils are doing everything they can to stay relevant in the increasingly competitive Metropolitan Division. They have a very important offseason coming up, where they need to get back into the thick of the playoff race. Lou Lamoriello knows his new owners, led by Josh Harris, want to know what Devils playoff hockey is like. These five rumors have been the loudest about the Devils' offseason.

In perhaps Lamoriello's worst ever signing, Ryane Clowe looks to have played his last game of hockey, after multiple concussions will make it hard to play again. Clowe's style of play was very aggressive, and they seems to be his downfall. After signing a five-year, .25 million contract, Clowe played a total of 56 games with the franchise. It looks like that will be the final total.

The Devils have a good amount of cap space with most of their main players signed long-term, but they still need another star to be competitive. There really isn't anything on the free-agent market worth spending big money on. It should be time for Lou to work his magic and acquire a big name in a trade.

While this is the most talked about NHL Draft since Sidney Crosby came out, there are a lot of question marks after Conor McDavid and Jack Eichel. Multiple mock drafts have them taking Mathew Barzal, a great talent with an injury history. Lou may think that there is value in picking up an extra second- or third-round pick in exchange for moving down.

The Devils currently have two head coaches, but don't really have one. They have Scott Stevens and Adam Oates controlling the team, but it is time to pick one. The Devils could even throw a wrench into the process and hire someone from outside the organization.

When will the Ilya Kovalchuk rumors stop? Probably not until he is either back in the NHL or retired from hockey in general. The new rumors suggest Kovalchuk found a loophole saying he can return to the league without getting anyone's approval. This should be interesting to watch over the next year.

Watch Devils' Blandisi Receive Penalty For Hilarious Flop

I don't blame any player in professional sports who does whatever it takes to give their team an edge during a game. However, certain efforts are just downright foolish. as New Jersey Devils forward Joseph Blandisi found out when he executed one of the most hilariously obnoxious flops in NHL history. Blandisi was correctly penalized for embellishment by the referee, but at least he knows the Internet got a hearty chuckle over the situation.
