The Philadelphia Flyers enter this offseason with more questions than answers after missing out on the playoffs in two of the last three seasons. With a new coaching staff in place and one of the organization’s deepest prospect pools in a decade, this could shape up to be a really intriguing season in the city of Brotherly Love. Here are the team’s five biggest rumors heading into the 2015 offseason.

The team made history by bringing in the former University of North Dakota head coach and want to put him in the best position to succeed. A big part of this means surrounding Hakstol with great assistant coaches, which just got tougher with Terry Murray bolting for the Buffalo Sabres this week. The more veteran assistant coaches, the more smooth the transition will be for the former Fighting Sioux coach.

With new head coach Dave Hakstol behind the bench, I expect the Flyers to get younger as the franchise starts anew. One means of getting younger would be giving youngsters such as Scott Laughton ample ice time to infuse youthful energy. I expect the gritty center to be the tip of the iceberg in terms of young players stepping up and joining the squad.

Power wing Lawson Crouse, big center Pavel Zacha and smooth-skating defenseman Zack Werenski are all possibilities for the Flyers with the No. 7 overall pick. Any of the three would look great in orange and black, but I think the All-American Werenski could be the true No. 1 defenseman Philly has lacked for quite some time.

2. Michael Del Zotto's Possible Extension

The former rising star with the Rangers looked lost in Nashville before bouncing back with the Flyers this season. At only 25 years old, Del Zotto is far from “washed up” and has earned an extension from the Flyers; how much and for how many years are questions that remain unanswered.

The contract the Flyers gave the former Lightning captain was laughable at the time in 2013 and downright hilarious right now. Lecavalier has made it clear he’s not retiring meaning the Flyers will have to either find a team that would trade for him -- highly unlikely -- or be the second team in three years to buy him out.
