Week 8 Wisconsin Prep Football AP Rankings

Stanley-Boyd is one of the hottest teams in Wisconsin. Sam Oleson-THE CHIPPEWA HERALD

My how a season has flown. It seems like yesterday we were getting ready for the first kickoff of the season. Now we are down to the final week of the regular season and with that comes the newest installment of the AP rankings. As usual teams are ranked in three divisions based on enrollment; large, medium and small. Following the team is their record and where they were ranked one week ago.

LARGE DIVISION (enrollment 900+)

1. Hartland Arrowhead  7-0  (1)

2. Waunakee  7-0  (2)

3. Sun Prairie  7-0  (3)

4. Appleton North  7-0  (4)

5. Brookfield East  7-0  (8)

6. Menomonie  7-0  (7)

7. Monona Grove  6-1  (9)

8. Kimberly  6-1  (10)

9. Green Bay Southwest  7-0  (NR)

10. (tie) Bay Port  7-0  (NR)

10. (tie) Hudson  7-0  (NR)

The Marshfield Tigers (6-1) dropped completely out of the top ten and out of sight according to the AP after they lost to the Menasha Bluejays (5-2) 42-7. The Homestead Highlanders (6-1) are also gone from this week’s rankings after their loss to the Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes (6-1) 14-7.  Bay Port will take on Green Bay Southwest for the Fox River Classic Conference title and Hudson faces off against Menomonie for the Big Rivers Conference crown. Both games are highlighted by yours truly as two of the top conference showdowns this Friday.

MEDIUM DIVISION (301-899)

1. West De Pere  7-0  (1)

2. Walworth Big Foot  7-0  (2)

3. Wisconsin Lutheran  7-0  (3)

4. Plymouth  7-0  (4)

5. Waupaca  7-0  (5)

6. Pewaukee  7-0  (6)

7. Mount Horeb Barneveld  7-0  (8)

8. Two Rivers  7-0  (10)

9. Waukesha Catholic Memorial  5-2  (9)

10. (tie) Seymour  6-1  (NR)

10. (tie) Chilton  7-0  (NR)

Due to their heartbreaking loss, last week’s number five team the Somerset Spartans (6-1) drop completely out of the top ten, allowing  Seymour and Chilton to make an appearance. Seymour made it in the top ten despite a loss last week, although they lost 12-7 to the number one West De Pere and gave them the closest game they’ve had all season. Chilton was able to defeat the Kewaunee Storm (2-5) 33-27 to remain perfect on the season.

SMALL DIVISION (300 and below)

1. St. Mary’s Springs  7-0  (1)

2. Eau Claire Regis  7-0  (2)

3. Lancaster  7-0   (3)

4. Edgar  7-0  (4)

5. Potosi  7-0  (5)

6. Hilbert  7-0  (6)

7. Stanley-Boyd  7-0  (8)

8. Cuba City  7-0  (7)

9. Bangor  7-0  (9)

10. Lake Country Lutheran  7-0  (10)

The Small Division continues to be the most consistent out of the three. It’s been a few weeks since we have seen a new team in the top ten. Stanley-Boyd continues to move up and be one of the hottest team in all divisions. They will take on Eau Claire Regis on Friday for the Cloverbelt Conference title, another match up that I highlighted as one of my top ten conference races to watch.
