There are a lot of wrestling shows scheduled for this weekend in Dallas. Independent companies have made it a tradition for over a decade now to follow WWE to the destination of WrestleMania weekend in order to give their shows a higher profile. For many fans, it has now become an integral part of the WrestleMania experience. Maybe check out a day of WWE’s Axxess or maybe just skip it because you’ve done it before, but make sure to get to at least one independent show before capping off the weekend at the big stadium show.
This year, a total of seven events are being held under the WWN Live banner on Friday and Saturday. Two EVOLVE shows, one each from Viva La Lucha, SHIMMER, CZW and Kaiju Big Battel and the big finale is the WWN Supershow: Mercury Rising featuring talent from EVOLVE, SHINE and FIP. NWA will run Parade of Champions on Thursday night in Fort Worth. Ring of Honor has the 10th annual Supercard of Honor show on Friday and a TV taping Saturday. There will also be a WrestleCon Supershow featuring talent from TNA, AAA/Lucha Underground and Global Force Wrestling along with some who will be working the WWN shows as well.
That makes a grand total of 11 events not under the WWE banner this weekend. Including WrestleMania and NXT Takeover: Dallas, that’s 13 shows from Thursday through Sunday. It’s a wrestling fan’s dream and there will be something for everyone. Search out the shows, as most of them are going to be available to watch live on iPPV. The only ones not available to see live from home are the WrestleCon and Viva La Lucha shows, and the Ring of Honor TV taping will air on later dates, obviously.
Some of the shows overlap, but check out the match cards. The EVOLVE shows won’t overlap with the NXT show or the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, and none of the WWN shows are expensive. They’re only $9.99 each live, and for $14.99 you can watch live and own it on VOD. It looks like the ROH show on Friday will be available on VOD after the fact, but it cannot be viewed live.
The big takeaway from this is that if you aren’t familiar with wrestling outside of WWE, or you only know a little bit, or if you just want something new and want to see them at their very best, you should give any of these shows a chance. It’s WrestleMania weekend! Make it a big wrestling event for yourself!
