NFL Pre-season week 2-What we learned

San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews will win Offensive Rookie of the year, there I’ve said it. Mathews logged his second strong game, rushing for 53 yards on 12 carries and caught 1 pass for 13 yards. This kid is a perfect fit for the Chargers offense.

The Buffalo Bills will move Marshawn Lynch before the start of the NFL regular season. The Bills showcased C.J. Spiller along with Joique Bell against the Indianapolis Colts. Add Fred Jackson in the mix, Lynch gets moved somewhere. Unless Buffalo is going to run the Wishbone offense, there aren’t enough touches to go around.

Matthew Stafford is going to have a great season. He hooked with up Calvin Johnson for the second straight week. Jahvid Best showcased his skills, collecting 49 yards in 8 carries. I have Stafford penciled in for 20-24 touchdowns this season.

Philadelphia Eagles backup QB Mike Vick looked bad. Very bad. 1-5 for 6 yards and 2 interceptions. He looked worse than the Eagles thrid string quarterback Mike Kafka who was 4-12 29 yards and a pair of interceptions. Kafka has an excuse, he’s a rookie.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman will miss the rest of the pre-season with a broken thumb. The injury ocurred after his hand struck a Kansas City Chief’s defensive lineman’s helmet. Freeman said after the game he expects to be ready to go opening week against the Cleveland Browns, that will remain to be seen.

50 million doesn’t go as far as it used to. St. Louis Rams rookie QB Sam Bradford was horrible. Bradford only connected on 6 of 14 passes for 24 yards. Yikes.

The Washington Redskins could not run the ball against the Baltimore Ravens. 14 attempts for 25 yards. The Redskins might have found someone to catch the ball this season though, Anthony Armstrong had another strong showing hauling in 4 receptions for 82 yards.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Hanne looked sharp, 11-14 151 yards and two touchdowns to TE Anthony Fasano. Miami is going to make some noise this season.

Newly acquired Denver Broncos RB Justin Fargas had 13 rushing yards on 9 carries. I have a feeling that the Broncos running gmae will be a work in progress for most of the season this year.

I’ve got to share some kicker love. Seattle Seahawks P Jon Ryan had 5 punts for 250 yards, however he had two punts back to back that were downed inside the 3 yard line. Special teams will win 2 games a year for you. That kind of kicking game sure helps out your defense.

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte had an 89 yard touchdown run. Could he be poised to rebound after last season?

I’d like to send a memo to the NFL Network. I LOVE your channel. However, could you possibly find some new sponsors? I have watched every pre-season game so far and if I have to see the NFL Redzone or NFL Fantasy Football commercial one more time, I’d like to gouge my eyes out.

[...] three backs might be in the running for the ROY award but after the second week of the pre-season I think it’s now clearly Mathews’ to lose. Jahvid Best will be a dynamic playmaker for the Detroit Lions but I don’t believe [...]
