Philly.com is reporting that they have spoken to an NFC personnel chief and according to that person these are the top 5 rated players heading into the 2011 NFL Draft. 1-QB Jake Locker, Washington. 2- CB Prince Amukamara, Nebraska. 3- QB Andrew Luck, Stanford. 4-WR A.J. Green, Georgia. 5-DE Marcell Dareus, Alabama.

Jake Locker,Senior, 6’3 226 pounds, has long been thought of as the best quarterback in the NFL draft this coming year and is in the running for the Heisman Trophy this college season. So far in his career, he has passed for 5,929 yards and 41 touchdowns. You know the Buffalo Bills would love to get a hold of him.

Prince Amukamara, Senior, 6’1″ 205 pounds. As a full-time starter last season, Amukamara came into his own with 64 tackles and 5 interceptions. He has great speed and plays very physical defense.

Andrew Luck, Junior, 6’4″ 235 pounds. Luck is starting for his second straight season in Stanford. He created quite a buzz last season and some scouts have compared him to Peyton Manning. He is a very large quarterback, he has great pocket awareness and is a very accurate passer. In two games so far this season, Luck has thrown 6 touchdowns and no interceptions.

A.J. Green, Junior, 6’4″ 207 pounds. Green is currently in the midst of serving a four game suspension from the NCAA for selling his Independence Bowl game jersey to a sports agent. What’s even more bizarre is the person whom Green sold the jersey to is facing felony drug charges. Green’s size, speed and ability to catch the ball almost effortlessly will make him a fine receiver in the NFL.

Marcell Dareus, Junior, 6’4″ 306 pounds. Dareus served a 2 game NCAA suspension to start the season after it was determined that he attended an agent’s party. He was named the MVP of the BCS Championship game last season. Best suited for a 3-4 defense and plays with exceptional speed.

  1. 2011 NFL Draft says:

Nice article. I love Locker but I am warming up to RYAN MALLETT more and more. I just think Mallett is a better pure QB.

Jake Locker is a joke! I understand that he’s the right size to be an nfl qb. Big deal. He has won 9 games his entire career. Yesterday he completed FOUR passes and threw two picks. What is with the Jake Locker love train. What has this guy done? Nothing. He is the most overratted player I have EVER seen.

Jake Locker hasn’t done a lot to earn his reputation. That doesn’t mean he can’t be a star in the NFL, maybe he can, but he needs a lot of coaching. Both Andrew Luck and Ryan Mallett appear to be much better pro prospects. Mallett’s biggest negative is that he throws like Elway used to, if you don’t catch it, it could cause you harm (throws a little too hard at times). But I really think Mallett is the best pro prospect of the three and I would be surprised if he comes out for the draft if he wasn’t the first player picked. But don’t hold the above list too high, pro teams rarely tell you the truth when it comes to the players they really want. Fun fact here, while Luck plays for Stanford and Mallett transferred from Michigan to Arkansas, both played their high school ball in Texas!
