Premier League Preview: Manchester United-Stoke City
Manchester United need to get back to their winning ways soon as they haven’t been able to meet the expectations early in the season. Man U will have a golden chance to add three points to their total on Saturday when they will host Stoke City at Old Trafford.
The Premier League has already seen nine matches being played, and The Red Devils are sitting in a disappointing eighth place with only 11 points. Meanwhile Stoke are near the red zone as they sit in the 16th place with only eight points.
David Moyes’ men will need to trust their attacking players to get a good result, but no other is more important right now than Wayne Rooney. Robin van Persie will be out (although he has a good chance to participate a few minutes in the fixture) so the England international will be the focal point of the team’s offensive movements once again. Rooney is coming off a stellar performance against Real Sociedad in the Champions League, and he has been the best player on the team this season, so what he does will be key against The Potters.
The visitors will look to group their defensive line near their own box as they will look to protect their net as the first priority making the performance of Asmir Begovic very important to the team’s success. The Bosnian international has been on the radar of several European giants the past years due to his stellar level of play the past seasons, and he needs to be at his best if Stoke want to get a positive result at ‘The Theatre of Dreams’.
Prediction: Manchester United 2-0 Stoke City
The Red Devils shouldn’t have issues getting past the challenge of a team that’s not up to their standards. This could be a nice momentum injection in the Premiership coming off a nice win at the European stage, and Manchester United should get the three points with ease.
