5 Uruguay Players That Can Be Difference-Makers Against Jordan
5 Uruguay Players That Can Make The Difference vs. Jordan
Uruguay will surely have one of their most important games in recent years this Wednesday.
Los Charruas will play on their fourth consecutive World Cup playoff round, a stage they were able to advance to in 2010 as they ended the South African tournament in fourth place. This time, they will be up against Jordan.
On paper, the South American side are the big favorites for Wednesday’s match. The squad managed by Oscar Washington Tabarez has one of the best teams in the world and they have some important players at every position, something that isn't the case with Jordan. The Asian team doesn’t have much international experience and have never been in a World Cup, so they could be nervous heading into the game.
That doesn’t mean that Uruguay can get complacent. They will play away from home and against a very unknown team, something that can be both an advantage and a disadvantage at the same time. They don’t know much of their rival, but Jordan does know a lot about their players, so they could find a way to stop them as they’ve seen footage before.
Experience will surely be key for Uruguay, and the well-known players of the squad will need to step their game up if they want to get a positive result. There are five players in particular that will need to be at their best if they want to make a difference in a pivotal encounter for La Celeste.
Without further ado, join me through this slideshow as we check the five Uruguayan players that can make a difference heading into the World Cup playoff match against Jordan.
5. Diego Lugano
The central defender is by far the most experienced player on Uruguay’s defensive line. The former PSG player is currently at West Bromwich Albion and he could end up being key to stopping the attacking efforts of Jordan.
4. Cristian Rodriguez
The Atletico Madrid midfielder will be in charge of creating the offense of the team through the flanks. With skilled players like Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez up front, ‘Cebolla’ will need to be able to deliver consistent passes to allow the strikers to do some damage against the inexperienced defensive line of Jordan.
3. Egidio Arevalo Rios
The former Palermo midfielder will be the one the anchorman at midfield, destroying Jordan’s plays in midfield. He’s not a gifted passer, but he gives it all on the pitch and his presence alone should be an advantage for Uruguay in midfield.
2. Edinson Cavani
Edinson Cavani’s presence was in doubt, but he cleared all the doubts after his performance for PSG last week. The former Napoli star is considered one of the best strikers in the world and if he’s on his game on Wednesday, he could end up being a nightmare for the inexperienced Jordan defensive line.
1. Luis Suarez
No player will be more important for Uruguay than Luis Suarez. The Liverpool star started the season on a tear after his suspension, and he seems to elevate his game when playing for the National Team. He scored a brace on the weekend and he will look to lead Uruguay’s attacking efforts on Wednesday.
