Sporting Kansas City has finally done it: they did not let the Houston Dynamo beat them to the MLS Cup for a third time running and by doing so, they have earned the right to play in and host the 2013 MLS Cup Final.

Graham Zusi, Dom Dwyer and Aurelien Colin are just three of the heroes that played their way this far, and coach Peter Vermes was a rock at the helm of this club. They did almost everything correctly and have certainly earned the right to make it to the biggest game of their season. Now, all they have to do is wait and see if they will be facing Real Salt Lake or the Portland Timbers. Either way, the match will be guaranteed to take place at their beloved Sporting Park.

With the field and atmosphere being their biggest advantage, losing the final will only happen if they make mistakes or if the opponents find a way to dominate them on both ends of the field. For that to happen, there would need to be some sort of miracle as this Sporting KC side is hungrier for success now than ever.

Zusi is without a shadow of the doubt the leader of this team when it comes to the midfield, since he is the only member that regularly records minutes playing for the United States Men’s National Team. His vision, intelligence of the game and hustle all give him leadership capabilities. He has to be at the top of his game in order for this team to win it all come December.

If they play RSL, they will have a lot of difficulty since that team just defeated the best in the business: the Los Angeles Galaxy, who were champions during the last two years running. This team also won the title back in 2009, so they know exactly what it takes to get the job done.

As for the Timbers, they are playing under their new head coach Caleb Porter, and he has led them all the way to the Western Conference Finals. But, they do have a mountain to climb after losing the first leg in Utah by a score of 4-2. However, the team has still been playing pretty soccer at home, which has allowed them to defeat a lot of good teams. They can overcome that deficit against RSL then perhaps make it to the MLS Cup Final for the very first time.
