Borussia Monchengladbach has in its ranks one of the best young goalkeepers in the world. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is a full Germany international – having won caps at all levels – and has been recently sought out by some of Europe’s best clubs.
The 21 year old has already been first choice for M’Gladbach for a few years now but has publicly released a statement that he would soon decide his future. It appears likely that he will secure a move to a bigger club.
He will have had many suitors since his rise to prominence, yet it seems that Barcelona have distanced themselves from the pack as favorites for securing his signature.
The Catalan club will be saying goodbye to longtime first-choice keeper, Victor Valdez, when he leaves on a free transfer in the summer. Barcelona’s Vice President has stated that Ter Stegen is one of the few keepers that they would consider as a replacement.
Marc-Andre is a star at M’Gladbach and will not come cheap. His release clause is estimated at around 11 million euros, but it will likely see a price hike as other clubs become aware of Barcelona’s transfer moves for the young keeper.
M’Gladbach has made a promising start to the season and currently sit in fourth place in the Bundesliga. They have only conceded 16 goals in 14 games, a total only bettered by the three teams above them in the table: Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, and Borussia Dortmund.
M’Gladbach will be hard pressed to find replacement of Ter Stegen’s caliber but know that they will not be able to keep him if bigger teams come calling. Do not be surprised if Marc-Andre Ter Stegen lines up between the sticks for Barcelona in the 2014-15 season.
