Even though Arsenal started their Premier League campaign solidly, it’s clear that the Gunners need to strengthen some areas of their team. They need a striker to partner with Olivier Giroud, a proven goalkeeper and some defensive reinforcements, but one position that Arsenal definitely needs to target as soon as possible is right-back.
Since Bacary Sagna‘s contract ends in June next year, and considering that a renewal isn’t the answer, Arsene Wenger needs to find a suitable replacement as soon as possible. While some names have been floated around already, no player would make more sense to land at the Emirates Stadium than Udinese’s Dusan Basta.
The Serbian international has enjoyed great success with the Serie A outfit this campaign, scoring two goals in 19 contests already, and his versatility could be a huge asset for Arsenal. He’s equally adept to play as a right-back or even as a right winger, and he has enough international experience to be a solid regular starter.
There are other names that have been mentioned as targets for Arsenal to improve the right-back position like Dortmund’s Lucas Piszczek, AC Milan’s Mattia De Sciglio and Sochaux’s Sebastien Corchia. But considering factors like transfer fee, experience and the availability, Basta seems like the best fit for the team.
He has already proven tht he can compete in one of the toughest leagues in the world, and joining Arsenal would be a step in the right direction for his career.
