Soccer fans around the world should keep their eyes on Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard for his last appearance in the Merseyside Derby. Gerrard and his Reds will travel across town to play against bitter crosstown rival Everton at Goodison Park. Stevie G will play in his 33rd and final derby against Everton, and if fans could rely on any one player for a spectacular performance, it is the Liverpool captain.

The Liverpool legend is looking to improve his record against Everton both in wins and scoring. Gerrard currently sits in fourth position in Merseyside Derby, scoring a total of 10 goals, including his free kick stunner in September at Anfield earlier this season. It’s reasonable for fans to expect the former England captain to score at least a goal. Gerrard will not let his team lose as a member of Liverpool against Everton.

Gerrard’s performances in matches have become more and more precious since his announcement to leave Liverpool to play for the LA Galaxy in the MLS. With a finite number of Liverpool games remaining for Gerrard, a number of matches standout for their significance, including the Merseyside Derby, and perhaps the most anticipated Northwestern Derby against Manchester United.

Although Liverpool and Everton may face off against one another in the UEFA Europa League, it seems highly unlikely and, for all intents and purposes, a derby match in the Premier League is something special and different.

Liverpool have not been enjoying their results so far this season and a victory against a bitter rival might be the boost they need to turn their season around.
