Geno Smith Gaining Interest From New York Jets

When the New York Jets were on the clock for pick numbers nine and 13 the name Geno Smith was being thrown around like none other. With Rex Ryan more than likely calling the shots, the Jets went with a double dip on the defensive side of the ball, selecting Dee Milliner and Sheldon Richardson. With that being said, one of the possibilities could still be available in the second round at pick number 39.

A few teams are ahead of the Jets in the draft order and some may be eager to add a quarterback like Smith to the fold. For instance, the Jacksonville Jaguars are selecting at pick number 33, so don’t be surprised if they chomp at the bit and snag Smith from the Big Apple. For years the Jags have been maligned by sub-par quarterback play and after drafting an offensive lineman in the first-round, the plan could be to have Smith under center for years to come.

The Philadelphia Eagles are a thorn in the side of the Jets considering they are selecting at pick number 35 and could select Smith as an excellent predecessor to Mike Vick. With plenty of needs the Eagles could decide to strike a deal with the Jets to garner more picks in exchange for the 35th overall selection. After a disappointing first-round experience, Smith will get rewarded quite handsomely once the second round begins.

Long story short, it is looking like Smith will not last past pick number 39 and the barrage of quarterbacks that is expected to surface may come sooner than pundits expected.
