LaQuan Williams Makes Claim for Starting Spot in Baltimore Ravens’ 1st Preseason Game

You can’t take too much from NFL preseason games, but LaQuan Williams showed up in the Baltimore Ravens‘ first exhibition and tried hard to make the defending champs forget about Anquan Boldin, who’s now with the San Francisco 49ers.

The third-year undrafted youngster recovered a block punt in the end zone and then hauled in a strike from backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor for his second touchdown of the game. It’s just the preseason, but the receiver jobs in Baltimore are up for grabs and Williams made a good first showing of 2013. Considering he’s a Baltimore native, it’s safe to say that everyone in Ravens Nation is rooting for Williams to not only make the team, but earn some considerable playing time in his third season.

The Ravens put the hurt on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the meaningless exhibition and Williams was a big reason why, scoring the last touchdown of the first half and the first one of the second half to put the “game” away. He’s trying hard to fill Boldin’s shoes and give Joe Flacco a viable second option alongside Torrey Smith for the upcoming season when the Ravens try to defend their crown. Needless to say, he’s off to a good start.
