The legend got the sendoff he deserves.
One of the greatest golfers of all time said his final goodbye to the Open Championship on Friday. Tom Watson, 65, won the Open Championship five times and came within one stroke of winning the major championship an incredible sixth time in 2009 at the age of 59.
“There were no tears,” he told ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi. “I was thinking the whole back nine ‘This is a joyous occasion.’ Over the years I’ve played in the Open Championship, I’ve had a lot of great memories. Those memories fill me up. It’s been a great run for the last 40 years.”
