Doug Martin: Fictional Resume for Villanova Assistant?
Jim O'Connor-US PRESSWIRE

Apparently Villanova University doesn’t believe in doing background checks on potential employees. Even worse, after not doing the background check, they will hire a fraud. It’s been reported that Doug Martin gave false information that landed him an assistant coaching job for the Wildcats.

Among some of the claims were that Martin played collegiate basketball at UW-Green Bay for coach Dick Bennett from 1991-95. Unfortunately for Martin, and after some checks we actually done, Andrew Gavin (UW-Green Bay AD) said there is no records of Martin ever playing basketball during that time. Gavin even did Martin a solid, assuming maybe he forgot the years he played, and checked the All-Time roster. Still no records of Martin ever stepping foot on the court.

Martin also had a LinkedIn profile that stated he was the team captain during his senior season. ESPN‘s Dana O’Neil reported that former Wisconsin-Green Bay star Jeff Nordgaard has stated he didn’t remember any Martin on his team and that he was in fact the team captain. Direct quote taken from Nordgaard by O’Neil ”I didn’t play with anyone by that name. So unless he changed his name …”.

As of this writing Villanova head coach Jay Wright said he has been made aware of the discrepancies and that the university is looking into it. No word yet whether Martin will keep his job but I wouldn’t be holding my breath if I was a member of his family.
