Boston Celtics Danny Ainge Might Have Tony Allen Replacement In Gilbert Brown
Last season the Boston Celtics were missing a large piece of the championship puzzle. That missing piece ended up ultimately costing the team an NBA title. Contrary to popular belief, that piece was not Kendrick Perkins. The missing piece was one Tony Allen. TA brought the Boston Celtics toughness on the defensive end with his aggressive street ball like play. TA gave no quarter off the bench and he cared not if it was LeBum James or Kobe Bryant in front of him. On the offensive end TA was aggressive to a fault at times, but there were times where the man sparked the bench.
The Celtics did not have TA or a player like him and in the end AInge was left chasing around the league to find one. The Celtics desperately needed wing help and AInge cashed in at the deadline. The result was Perkins was traded for Jeff Green too late in the year. Green did not have the proper time to get to know the Celtics system and the team suffered. The team suffered more with the injury of Shaq that left the team thin at center as well. Ainge knows he needs to fix this issue next season.
Enter the non drafted Gilbert Brown. Brown stared for PITT. The 6ft 6inch small forward plays with an edge on defense and is extremely athletic. Brown on offense lacks touch like TA. However, he also gets very aggressive like TA and can generate a spark with fantastic drives to the basket. Unlike TA, BRown is described as a student of the game and that is probably why AInge loves the athletic Brown’s upside. If one pairs an athletic guy with a basketball genius like Doc Rivers, the results are usually great. Doc could teach this man the ins and outs of defense in the NBA. Doc could teach the man to control his aggressiveness unlike TA. I salivate at the idea of a Tony Allen that could play in control. If Brown is that guy, the Celtics will be getting a steal.
The bottom line is once Ainge sees a problem, he looks for the solution. The Celtics needed TA last year. Brown could be that solution. Once again Danny AInge could find another steal. If he does this time, Boston will be once step closer to Banner 18. Remember Go Green Or Go Home!!!!!!!!!
