The Boston Celtics have some decisions to make this offseason. One of those decisions is Glen Davis returning or not. The answer to that question might have already been answered. The fact is Davis showed much improvement during the first half of the 2010-2011 season. He proved that he could be an energy guy off the bench that provides the huge spark a great team needs. The problem is Davis also proved that he was capable ruining all that with a performance in the second half that saw zero energy play and a guy forcing up way too many shots. The bottom line is Davis’s issues were mental as he tried to be something that he is clearly not. His second half might have played him out of town. However, if it did not his latest comments might have been the parting shove.
One of the most important aspects of a team is chemistry. The Celtics have staunch NBPA union leaders in KG, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Rajon Rondo. These men have all been very vocal in their support for the union cause. Davis on the other hand has not. He has tweeted the take the 51 percent and let’s play quote. Considering the union is trying to hold on to any leverage that they have, I am sure those fellow Celtics were not too pleased with Glen’s remarks. I cannot picture KG being pleased to see that this guy with many years ahead of him cannot fight the fight with KG giving up a possible shot at a last run for an NBA title. The fact that in Shaq’s new book that he calls out Davis for being a selfish player and makes it clear that he was not the only one on the team to feel that way says a lot about Davis’s standing within the team. Can the Celtics brass risk bringing Davis back into the locker room for a possible club house issue?
The bottom line is Davis is on thin ice. At the very least Davis is going to have some fences to mend. His tenure with the Celtics is in jeopardy. I would not be surprised to see Ainge deal him for center help in a sign and trade after the lockout ends. Stay tuned for the conclusion of this saga. Remember Go Green or Go Home!!!!!!!!!!
