The trade rumors are swirling that Danny Ainge is trying to deal one Rajon Rondo. Rondo is thought to be the lure that Ainge is using to try to land Hornets all star point guard Chris Paul. However, Ainge has come out today and made it clear that he is not trying to deal Rajon Rondo. In fact his intentions are to keep the core four together of Rondo and the “Big Three” and build around them. Despite what Ainge says, I do not believe him one single solitary second that he was not trying to unload Rondo for CP3.
The reason I believe Ainge was looking to deal Rondo for Paul is the simple fact that he is a great NBA executive. The situation with Paul’s up coming free agency makes him available for the right price because New Orleans cannot afford to let him walk and get nothing in return. As much as I love Rondo, the simple fact is Paul’s ability to shoot makes him a better fit for Boston. The Celtics offense too many times are playing a tough zone defense because Rondo does not need to be guarded due to his lack of a solid jump shot. Chris Paul is also only 26 years old and the team can build around him like they would have Rondo. Why wouldn’t Ainge offer Rondo to try to improve the team now and for the future?
I know Ainge is trying to save face. There is no way that he did not at least put in a phone call to the Hornets. This might also just be blown out of proportion a little. He probably called New Orleans to gage their interest and an alleged “source” made a mountain out of a mole hill. However, the fact remains that AInge tried to deal Rondo. If the price is right Rondo is gone. Remember Go Green Or Go Home!!!!!!!
