The Boston Celtics have many needs. One of the top priorities of Boston is the center position. The Celtics need depth with only often injured Jermaine O’Neal on the roster. Celtics President Danny Ainge cannot land bigger name free agent targets like Tyson Chandler, Samuel Dalembert, and Greg Oden. They will just command too much on the open market and Boston is up against the cap. There are still some solid players out there at the center position that could be very helpful to Boston on their quest for Banner 18.
The first option is Kwame Brown. Brown I know is an under achiever, but I am not drafting him as the first pick in the draft. I just want a guy that can plays a solid 20 minutes a night. Brown can do that. He averaged almost eight points on 50 percent shooting and seven rebounds for a terrible Bobcats team last year. Those numbers should improve in a more open Boston offense with Rajon Rondo passing him the ball for easy looks. Kwame also can play tough defense and with KG holding him accountable he should be a productive member for the Celtics. The only downside is other teams want this guy because there just are not a lot of centers and who knows if the money is there for Boston to sign him.
Should Kwame Brown land elsewhere, the Celtics could take a look at one Joel Pryzbilla. Now I realize that Pryzbilla is not a great player, but he is a solid inside defender that can defend and most importantly rebound. Boston got killed on the boards last year and Pryzbilla would help in the rebounding department. Joel can also finish around the basket better than his numbers indicate. If he is given an open look, he can finish near the basket strong. The Celtics could do a lot worse than him as the backup. The only issue is that Joel is coming off surgery on his knee and injuries have hampered him the last few seasons. However, he is considered healthy and in a limited role on Boston his health should hold up.
A possible third option is old friend Leon Powe. Powe has struggled to come back from injuries since leaving Boston, but he did not really see minutes in Cleveland as they were going in another direction. Powe already knows the system and could step in and give Boston solid minutes. His defense is great off the pick and roll and despite being under sized; he knows how to throw his body around.
Any two of these guys would provide a great three headed monster for Boston. They could all play limited minutes and provide Boston with depth in case of injury. Seeing as how Boston had only rookie Semih Erden for a while last season after injuries hit, this depth with these veterans would be very welcomed. My money is on Ainge to land two of these guys. Remember go Green or Go Home!!!!!!!
