The Glen Davis saga is officially over in Boston. The talented undersized forward has been sent to Orlando for Magic power forward Brandon Bass. The move makes sense for both teams.
Despite the fact that Davis had big shot capability, he provided too many headaches for Boston. Davis had issues with his role in Boston and fought with Doc Rivers way too much. Davis wanted to start and as long as KG is in Boston that was not going to happen. The Magic get Davis to start along side Dwight Howard. They feel playing with Howard that Davis will have a lot of room to operate offensively and have his game reach even greater heights. The Magic also will have Davis under their control longer than they would have Bass.
The Celtics get a power forward to back up KG that can play serious minutes. Bass has a solid mid range shot, but his game is inside. The man loves to mix it up in the paint. Unlike Davis, Bass should have no problem in his new role as backup power forward that crashes the paint. Bass averaged a career best 11 points a game last season. Bass also averaged 5.6 rebounds despite playing next to the human rebounding machine that is Dwight Howard. I believe his numbers will go up in the rebounding department without Howard to steal his rebounds. Bass is also only here for this season and then owns a player option for only 4 million next year. That makes him attractive to Boston to try to keep cap flexibility for next season.
Danny AInge has fled another void with Bass as his backup power forward. The Celtics still need a backup point guard (Delonte West?), a couple big men to cover the center position, and the Jeff Green saga to end. Stay tuned because Danny still has some work to do. Remember Go Green Or Go Home!!!!!!!!
