Boston Celtics Kevin Garnett Makes Some Noise With 3s
The Boston Celtics got a huge game from one Kevin Garnett during their Sunday romp of the Grizzlies. The “Big Ticket” continued to show there is plenty of life in his game as he went for 24 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal. Although KG got a lot of his points the signature KG way by hitting his jump shot and getting deep in the paint for some solid post moves to the basket, the basket most people were talking about after the game was his third three point shot that he drained in as many games.
After the game KG went on a full rant when asked about the three point shot. He made it quite clear that he is more than capable of buying the three point shot. He also made it clear that he is insulted that the media and so called experts believe he did not have that range. He also made it clear do not expect him to spot up too many times form long range. Here is a small bit of that rant courtesy of ESPN Boston.
“I don’t shoot 3s because we have one of the all-time greatest 3-point shooters in history [in Ray Allen]. We have Paul Pierce, who has won the 3-point contest. We have other guys in here that can shoot 3s. That ain’t my role here. My role is to get those guys open. And if they throw it to me — shoot it, dunk it, pass it — OK, cool. But I can shoot 3s.
There are a few good points for the Celtics with KG all of a sudden spotting up from long range and connecting. The first is his man is now going to have to play a lot closer to him at the three point line. This means more room for guys like Paul Pierce and Ray Allen to drive and get to the basket. It also means more room in the paint for guys like Jermaine O’Neal, Brandon Bass, and Chris Wilcox to operate.
The other great news is judging by his comments Celtics fans do not have to worry about KG becoming another Rasheed Wallace. KG knows his role and will not be walking down the floor and jacking up threes like a drunken sailor spending money. He knows he has Ray and Paul and that means his game is inside and mid range.
There is nothing wrong with expanding your game to make the team better. If he can make one or two a game and keep a defense honest, he will be adding a very dangerous piece to his game that will make his teammates better with more space. Just as long as you remember your true role with the team. I got a feeling KG is going to hit a few more threes this season than he normally does. However, I also believe that he will continue to play inside like an animal. Remember Go Green Or Go Home!!!!!!
