9 Rants to “Top 8 Who Will Sign Yu Darvish?”

  1. Aaron L says:

You obvs no nothing about where Yu Darvish will sign if you did not include the blue jays considering they are the front runners to get him believe it or not, so i find it stupid how you did not include them but you include the mets? like cmon bud

    • Brett Rosin says:

I’m pretty sure no one knows where he will sign considering he isn’t a free agent. It’s who ponies up the POSTING fee to negotiate for his services exclusively. I don’t think the Blue Jays will outpost bigger market teams- thus why Toronto isn’t o nthe list- but the Mets are.

      • WasteofTime says:

Really, Toronto not outposting the bigger market teams? Do your research, Toronto is the 4 or 5th largest market in NORTH AMERICA. Do you forget that the Jays lead in payroll in the late 80s early 90s? They were spending 90 mill a season when other teams were battling just to spend 80. The Jays have the financial support with Rogers Communication to once again have a payroll in around the 120-140 million mark and with the Canadian dollar being on par with the USD it will make it that much easier for AA to spend Rogers money when the time is right, and Darvish is right for the Blue jays this offseason.

        • Brett Rosin says:

Until they decide to have a payroll in the top 5 in the MLB, I don’t care about how big the market is. When the Rogers Communication ponies up the big money to compete with the big boys- it’s nothing but a guess when it comes to the Blue Jays which is why I stayed away from CURRENT mid sized market- so maybe YOU need to do a little more CURRENT research on why the Blue Jays ARE CONSIDERED a MID market CURRENTLY.

          • WasteofTime says:

Then why did you add the Miami Marlins? Yes they are going to a new stadium but currently they have shown no signs of spending. They still have one of the worst owners in baseball. The signing of Darvish is a total guessing game, you could have put 20 teams on there and not limited it to 8.Anyone can sign a cheque for the exclusive rights and might not be able to sign him.Darvish is a total guessing game as no one will know who posted what.

          • Brett Rosin says:

Exactly. I could have put 20 random teams. No one really knows. Including the “authority networks” like ESPN and yahoo.

I actually think the Marlins are going to make a splash in FA this offseason. I’m not convinced the Blue Jays are.

  2. WasteofTime says:

I don’t agree that the Angels,Mets, Dodgers will get Darvish. You forgot a huge sleeper this offseason, the Jays, they are owned by Rogers Communication, a billion dollar company, the Jays wouldn’t only be vastly improved but Rogers will expand their communcation reach with Darvish to Japan.Start actually researching your posts before you randomly pick teams. Not worth the time reading this as you just posted random thoughts, well done in wasting my time.

    • Brett Rosin says:

The Tribune Company owned the Cubs. Prior to going bankrupt- they had a BOAT LOAD of money. The Tribune Company decided to pocket all the profit because they knew Cub fans would go to games regardless of their record- which went on for 25 plus years. So trying to sell “the rogers communication corporation has money” doesn’t fly. Until the team spends the money needed to win- the pockets of the owner doesn’t matter.

Not to mention- we’re all speculating on WHEN Yu Darvish is actually posted. It’s not up to him on where he signs. So YOU Need to research your facts on how the post system works. IF the Yankees WANT Darvish- they’ll get him. I don’t think the Angels or Dodgers get him- but they’re in a bigger CURRENT market than Toronto thus making them a bigger play.

I didn’t even know the Blue Jays had a fan base. Interested.

Thanks for wasting MY TIME for trying to explain how current systems work.

      • WasteofTime says:

I know how the system works, it is putting a teams offer in an envelope and which ever team puts the highest amount in that envelope gets the rights. It is not negotiated no other team sees what someone else posts. Yes the Yanks could get Darvish but if another team bids 1 mill over their post they don’t get to negotiate. If the team that wins the bid cannot sign him, he goes back to Japan and becomes a free agent I do believe after the 2013 season and he will then become fair game to every MLB team without having to go through the posting process. I do believe this is the way, if I am wrong, where did I go wrong in my research?
