Earlier today the well-known and hyped up Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes was taken off the market when he agreed to a deal with the Oakland Athletics. But what many people may not know is that there is another Cuban outfielder on the market who may be better and now, reportedly, he has been taken off the market as well. According to a report by SBNation Chicago the Cubs are set to sign Soler to a three or four-year contract worth around $27 million.

Soler, although widely unknown to most casual MLB fans, is 6-foot-3, 200 lbs. and is said, by many scouts, to have five-tool potential. But best of all is the fact that Soler is the guy that the Cubs have wanted all along. GM Theo Epstein signed two of Soler’s former teammates this off-season (19-year-old pitcher Gerardo Concepcion, the consensus No. 3 ranked Cuban prospect) most likely in a push to get Soler to come to Chicago.

Baseball Prospectus’ Kevin Goldstein had this to say about Soler, “Soler will be the Cubs’ No. 1 overall prospect. Soler will be in the minors for about three years.” Goldstein also added that if Soler was in the 2011 MLB draft, he would have been a top 10 selection. The only thing holding Soler back from officially signing with the Cubs and making his way to the states is his paperwork. Soler’s is still waiting for clearance from the MLB and once he gets it it won’t be long until he is a part of the Chicago Cubs.
