Good news for Phillies fans!

All star slugging first baseman, Ryan Howard took live batting practice for the first time since he tore his left Achilles tendon in the playoffs last season.

Howard said he is pleased with his recovery, but that he hasn’t set a “time limit” on his return date yet. Howard just started swinging a bat less than two weeks ago, and took his first swings off live pitchers on Wednesday.

The 2006 NL MVP, hit .253 with 33 homers and 116 RBIs last season for the Phillies.

This is a big step for both Howard and the Phillies offense. Without their big bat in the lineup, the Phillies chances of a sixth straight NL East title are much smaller.
