Rockies Fans Happy to See Lincecum Rocked, Chased
Chris Humphreys- US PRESSWIRE

The Colorado Rockies scored 17 runs in their 17-8 win over the San Francisco Giants Wednesday night. The Rockies had 11 extra base hits, but none of them were home runs. Every position player for the Rockies had a hit and Tim Lincecum made it only two and a third innings and now has an ERA of 12.91 for the season.

For Lincecum, it was a tough spring training and he has pitched terribly in his first two games. Coors Field has been a safe haven for Lincecum in the National League West and is also the home of the Rockies-Giants hatred, fueled by Lincecum’s comments.

In the heat of the 2009 pennant race in September, Lincecum was pitching for the Giants at Coors Field. At one point he threw away a ball and said that he thought it was a loaded ball. The implication was that the Rockies were letting their own pitchers use balls climate controlled in the humidor and slipping the Giants balls that would travel farther.

The humidor was installed in Coors Field in 2002 and has drastically cut down on the scores at Coors Field. Prior to 2002, baseball games were out of control as the Rockies beat the home run record for a team twice with the aid of their home field stomping grounds. The humidor allows the ball to travel like it would in a humid climate, but the altitude still allows balls to travel.

Lincecum’s outrageous accusation was that the bat boy was slipping balls that had not been in the humidor into the umpires’ hands. While it angered the Rockies, Lincecum won the game and the Giants ultimately beat the Rockies out for the pennant on their way to a World Series.

If the Rockies were going to blow up anyone, Lincecum would be at the top of the list. Fair weather Giants fans now roam Coors Field and flaunt their World Series championship. A 12.91 ERA for their ace will quiet them down just a little bit.
