Hacked: New York Yankees Facebook Page Says Derek Jeter Will Miss Rest of Season After Sex Change

According to a report by the famous blog Deadspin, the New York Yankees had their Facebook page hacked today.

How can that be proved?

Well, all you have to do is check out their tweet from earlier today.

Here’s what they said: “We regret to inform our fans that Derek Jeter will miss the rest of the season with sexual reassignment surgery. He promises to come back stronger than ever as Minnie Mantlez.”

The tweet is gone now, of course, but Deadspin managed to capture it before it was deleted.

I love the humor in the tweet. The Minnie Mantlez reference, as I’m sure most of you can figure out, is a reference to former Yankees Hall of Fame center fielder Mickey Mantle, who hit 536 home runs and won three Most Valuable Player awards from 1951 to 1968.

Sports Illustrated writer Peter King called it the “tweet of the century.”

Apparently the Facebook pages for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, and San Francisco Giants were all also hacked earlier today, according to Deadspin.

That’s something I’ve always wondered as a sports fan. What will teams and players do when Twitter accounts start getting regularly hacked? I honestly believe it’s going to happen soon.

Or what could also see if a player blaming a tweet on a hacker. You know, a professional athlete tweets something stupid on his Twitter account, regrets it right away, and then decided to blame a hacker. How can it be proved whether it was the athlete or a hacker who did the original tweet?

Regardless though, it’s important that we take a moment to be thankful that Derek Jeter is still Derek Jeter, and the 38-year old Yankees shortstop will be finishing out this season.
