MLB Rumors: Toronto Blue Jays to Shut Down RF Jose Bautista For Season?
(Kim Klement/US PRESSWIRE)

In one of the most competitive divisions in baseball with the AL East, the Toronto Blue Jays have mostly been a disappointment for a majority of the 2012 season as they sit in the basement with a 56-70 record heading into Sunday. Obviously, playoffs are out of the question with a little over a month left in the regular season for the Blue Jays–which is why one of the hottest MLB rumors that involves the team shutting down Jose Bautista for the remainder of the season makes sense.

Bautista returned to the disabled list this weekend after dealing with pain in his wrist during Saturday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles–the same type of injury that forced him to be on the list in the middle of July. Bautista had missed over a month and returned to the lineup for Toronto on Friday, but he couldn’t even make it through two full games before dealing with wrist problems again–which is why the team may consider shutting him down for the season.

With the position the Blue Jays are in, there’s no point in risking further injury to one of their top players if they’re not even going to make the playoffs. At 31 years of age, the last thing Toronto wants is to continue having Bautista play and make the injury even more worse than it already is.

If the team’s putting him back on the 15-day DL–what’s the point of bringing him back at all during the 2012 season?
