The Sabres (6-3-0) righted the ship and snapped a two-game losing streak by defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets (1-8-1) in Buffalo on Thursday night. Numerous players contributed to the Sabres victory. Jhonas Enroth drew the start in goal for the Sabres and got the victory by stopping 41 of the 43 shots that he faced.

Thomas Vanek didn’t score a goal for the Sabres. But that didn’t mean he didn’t contribute. Vanek had three assists for the Sabres to extend his team-leading point total to 14. Jason Pominville also had an excellent game with two goals and an assist. Brad Boyes and Patrick Kaleta also scored for Buffalo. Luke Adam, Boyes, Christian Ehrhoff and Nathan Gerbe each had one assist for the Sabres.

Overall, Buffalo did an excellent job to bounce back from two poor outings vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning. The performance of Jhonas Enroth in goal is a big positive for the Sabres. The past few season, Ryan Miller has been forced to start more games than the Sabres would have preferred. This has led to Miller not playing at his peak level at times. Enroth gives the Sabres a solid second option in goal, allowing Miller to get the proper amount of rest throughout the season.

Buffalo continued their excellent play on special teams. They scored two power play goals while not allowing the Blue Jackets to score on the power play, despite multiple chances. Once again, the Sabres emerged from the game as healthy as they entered it. Continued good health is a key for the Sabres.

The Sabres get Friday off before facing the Florida Panthers in Buffalo on Saturday. The game against the Panthers will be the third game of the Sabres current five-game home-stand.
