RFA Defensemen Return and Mini Season Ticket Plans
The Carolina Hurricanes ink defenseman Derek Joslin to a two-year contract. The contract is a one way deal worth $1.4 million so Joslin will be spending next season with as a full time blue liner in the NHL.
Joslin split last season in San Jose and Carolina but he showed his colors in the RBC Center. In the 17 games he played with Carolina, he scored one goal and assisted four others. But the more impressive stats are his plus-7 rating and 18 minutes of ice time per game.
The 24-year-old skater made his debut in the west coast on January 3, 2009 and he scored nearly half of his NHL points wearing a Carolina jersey. Joslin is a key part of the Hurricanes’ young crop of talent.
AHL defenseman Brett Bellemore also signed a two year deal with the Hurricanes. The contract will pay him $525 thousand at NHL level and $70 thousand if he remains in Charlotte.
Bellemore scored 10 points and finished the season with a plus-8 rating. But the stand out statistic is his 74 penalty minutes ranked him second on the team. The 6’4 defenseman was a sixth round draft pick in 2007 by Carolina.
Next on the list: long term contract for Brandon Sutter and possibly a one year deal to Cory Stillman (though that seems unlikely now).
