Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Justin Faulk will spend this weekend in Ottawa for the NHL All-Star festivities.

Just eight months ago, Faulk won the NCAA National Championship with Minnesota-Duluth. This past off-season Faulk was selected to play in the U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, New York to see if he could make the U-20 roster for the national tournament later in the year. To cap off his success, Faulk was called up to the Hurricanes mid-season and he has never looked back. The blueliner has four goals and seven assists on the season and averages right around 22 minutes of ice time.

No other Carolina skater was selected to play in Ottawa and at the mid-season, Carolina sits dead last in the Eastern Conference with 45 total points. Even with the atrocious start to the season, the Hurricanes are only 10 points away from a playoff spot so there is enough time to turn things around in the second half of the season.

Faulk was one of 12 rookies selected to be a part of the All-Star game and he will be assigned to either Team Alfredsson or Team Chara later tonight. Last season, Jeff Skinner attended the All-Star game in his first year in the NHL and became the youngest player in NHL history to participate.
