All of us Chicago Bears fans were excited after the convincing win over the Atlanta Falcons week one. Since that time, many of us are just as distraught after losing two games fairly easily to the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers. The Chicago Bears now sit at 1-2 and are looking up at the Packers and Detroit Lions that both sit at 3-0. Does this mean the season is over? Not quite, but there’s work to do.

So how do the Chicago Bears get back into this thing? Well, the most obvious one is that they have to win on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers at home. This is an absolute must-win. Assuming that the world doesn’t come to an end and the Bears defend their home field, next week’s game with the Detroit Lions takes on almost a playoff feel for the Chicago Bears. They absolutely have to beat the Detroit Lions on Monday night. According to those I know in Detroit, this game is already taking on mammoth proportions. The ticket prices are sky-rocketing and the buzz is similar to when the Lions hosted the Super Bowl a few season’s back.  This will be the first time in 11 years that the Lions have been on Monday Night football, so the anticipation is huge. I do find it ironic that they’re on national TV every Thanksgiving and that isn’t as important as a Monday night game.

The next question is how do the Bears right this ship? It begins by finding an offensive identity. The Chicago Bears have been known as a running team, but that may not be possible with this group. Considering the offensive line issues and the lack of hole identification by the running backs, the Chicago Bears aren’t able to consistently run the football. Of course, the wide receivers aren’t helping either. How many times can this group run poor routes, drop open passes and not help Jay Cutler? The tight ends make plays when they’re thrown the football, but their blocking is horrendous. The coaching staff has its work cut out trying to fix this offense. I’m hoping that the Bears can at least do one thing well this Sunday against the Panthers and build upon it for the following week against the Lions.

The defense and special teams have been solid, and getting many of the injured players back will help this team. But until the offense is improved, this will continue to be a painful season.

2 Rants to “What do the Chicago Bears do from Here?”

  1. Ross says:

The Bears must play the season out, if George McCaskey or any McCaskey truly loves this organization they will clean house after the season. There are many intelligent football people in proven organizations that want an opportunity to prove themselves. Given that, the McCaskey’s must hire a smart aggressive front office and begin re-tooling for the future. I have watched the Arizona Cardinals follow these steps and they successfully removed the older Bidwell from power. They are beginning to compete and are much younger. Detroit is doing this also, it’s not impossible. But, the McCaskey’s must take the steps to ensure a change.

  2. Kevin Hill says:

Jerry Angelo has proven for a long time he can`t build an offense nearly last every yr in team stats, stats don`t lie, so there is no re course now but get rid of him? This is a fascinating matchup this weekend, a team the Panthers who cannot stop the run, against the Bears who have shown they have trouble running the ball, something has to give.
