Everyone is worried about making Matt Forte, Lance Briggs and now the most recent player to receive support is Earl Bennett. Shoot, I am going to even throw in Corey Graham’s name in the ring. BUT, the man the Chicago Bears should be paying is offensive line coach Mike Tice. He deserves a HUGE raise. This is one coach the Chicago Bears cannot afford to lose.

Considering the time constraints from the off-season due to the lockout, Tice has taken a group of late-round draft picks and free agents (Chris Williams was a first-round pick and Chris Spencer was also a first-round selection by the Seahawks) and turned them around in less than a month’s time. And this is without first-round selection Gabe Carimi. This group has done such a good job that Carimi is being given extra time with his injured knee.

Last off-season, the Tennessee Titans came sniffing around and wanted to interview Tice for their offensive coordinator position. The Chicago Bears did not grant them the interview. The organization recognizes his value, now pay him so he doesn’t leave after this season.

I’m keeping this short and sweet today. But let’s get this man the money he has rightfully earned. Follow me on Twitter at ChicagoBearJew.

4 Rants to “Chicago Bears…Pay Mike Tice”

  1. Andrew J says:

As much as I love Tice, he should have his chance to do bigger better things than be an o line coach. I hope he sticks around until Martz is gone so he can fill that vacancy because i think he could do a superb job calling plays for the bears. I feel Tice’s philosophy, coming from run-first teams like jacksonville and minnesota fits right into the bears strengths as a team. I feel he would also give cutler some more autonomy that i think can bring him to another level as a qb. If he ends up leaving for a better job, so be it, that’s what any football person with any kind of competitive drive should want to do. We can give him more money, but if other teams are offering him coordinator jobs or even head coaching jobs, its tough to keep him here. It would suck but itd be nice that a guy that has helped the bears so much like tice is rewarded with a better position, even if it’s with a different organization.

I say the Bears should name him assistant head coacn

I like that idea. I also read somebody on espn thinks the bears are gonna fire Martz and give Tice the OC job at the end of the season. Not sure what i think of that though. While i think martz doesnt fit in with the way the bears are built, it would probably be a hassle to switch up the OC again and put in place a new system of play calling and whatnot, simply from a logistical standpoint. Then again, with a few years under Martz, Tice might be able to make the transition relatively seamlessly, so who knows.
