Since Theo Epstein took over as team president last fall, one of the hotter topics has been where the Cubs play their home games: Wrigley Field.

There’s no doubt that Wrigley is in need of quite a bit of renovation and remodeling, which has already started with the addition of the patio that is coming out in right field.

But there are rumors that the Cubs could be seeking even bigger changes. According to a report by NBC Chicago, the Cubs have already had to deny one report that they could be moving to U.S. Cellular Field for the 2013 season.

A move like that would indicate that the Cubs would be seeking a major overhaul at the Friendly Confines, and would be forced to play their home games at The Cell for 2013, not unlike when the Bears played their games in Champagne.

Apparently, workers at U.S. Cellular have been told to prepare for a very busy 2013, which hints at the potential of them having to deal with twice as many home games.

Of course, this has all been denied already.

Nonetheless, it’s an intriguing situation to watch. The Cubs have made no secret of their plans to make major upgrades to Wrigley Field, as they have already begun flirting with the idea of trying to use tax payer money to finance such a remodel.

Those types of funds would obviously be required before the Cubs could even think about playing their home games at The Cell in 2013. As of right now, these just remain rumors, but be sure to stay tuned.
